Now that the outer walls have been insulated, the ventilation system for the rooms with cool fresh air can be set up and is described on this page. It is a knowing fact that fresh air or oxygen sleeps very well. Below you can see a sample drawing how it works.
Our ventilation is realized by several measures. We want to constantly let fresh air flow through the house. First, by using natural airflow, we know warm air rises! Warm air goes up and can leave at the roof when air is puhed in. Second, by forced ventilation through a small 4 inch (12 Wattt, 240m3/h) exhaust fan in the ceiling of each room with manual speed control. It is important that the air circulates slowly to avoid any discomfort. The roof of the house is open to the outside to ensure a constant flow without resistance. A small handicap that we did not take into account at first are the birds that insist on building a nest under the roof, not to mention the bird droppings that they leave everywhere outside on the stairs and the veranda. This small problem still needs to be solved.
Using a 6 inch pipe, air is sucked in from the outside, leading underground to under the house through the pipe. Later this pipe is connected to the five ventilation shafts in de floor. Only the last piece of pipe above ground is insulated. The air would be cooled by the lower temperature of the ground. Picture below: The pipes lie next to the trench on the site. We also use this trench for water pipes and power cables.
In the middle of the picture the inhaul pipe.
Every room has a ventilation shaft in the floor with a size of 20x20 centimeters to let the fresh cool air in.
Two ventilation shafts in the living room, bedrooms have one shaft.
